Canadian Work Permits

Work Permit

For the most part work permit applicants have already negotiated an employment arrangement in Canada. This can be direct or contract employment, or through a business arrangement. Documentation regarding the terms of employment must be supplied with a work permit application.

Open Work Permit

In a few situations, foreign nationals can apply for work permits without employment pre-arranged in Canada. This is known as an open work permit. Spouses or partners of foreign workers, protected persons, and persons in a youth mobility program are the most common applicants for open work permits.
